I am going to a black tie event and although I do have black patent leather shoes, I was thinking of wearing black velvet shoes. Would that look good with a tux? I currently have Magnanni Dante (patent leather) and Magnanni Nunez (black velvet).

My tux is a midnight blue Black Lapel Tux with slim peak lapels. I'm 6'3" and thin (if that helps)

Thoughts?

Depends on what you mean by velvet shoes. If the following is what you have in mind, then fine:

But forget it if they are anything like this:

I would recommend going for patent leather, however, Ralph Lauren would probably disagree with me.

Patent. Both the Nunez and Dante are derbies which isn't technically BT formal, but patent is better than velvet in this case.
