If going to a black tie event , is it ok to wear a dark blue dinner jacket with black trousers? Or would it always be worn with matching blue trousers?
I've read a few articles looking for advice and what I have found is a bit contradictory. Some say jacket and trousers should always match (down to material and matching lapel/trouser trim.)
Some say "odd" jacket and trousers are fine so long as the trousers are black and tailored.
I've even been staring at pictures of Daniel Craig as James Bond in a dark blue DJ, but my eyes aren't good enough to work out if the trousers he is wearing are black or very very very dark blue.
If so, what would the right trousers be? I assume I wouldn't want to simply throw on an orphaned pair of black suit trousers. Or my existing black tuxedo trousers which go with my black tux. Is there a particular style of dress trousers I should be looking for?
Only asking because I've seen a very nice looking midnight blue dinner jacket for a very tempting price, but it doesn't have matching trousers. The old tux is looking a little tired but it would probably be good for one more outing if the blue DJ is not a good option.
