New member here.

Just finished graduate school and looking to further my business wardrobe. I am looking to build up a dress shirt collection. I am rather slim and dislike most shirts off the rack.

Would it be better to start out with the Brooks Brothers Extra Slim shirt or give something like Modern Tailor a try?

Thanks.

Thanks. I have skimmed through that thread (not all 100+ pages). My main question is essentially should I settle for the BB extra slim fit or should I take the time to pick out a custom shirt maker (like Modern Tailor)? Is there a major cost difference?

I have a Ralph Lauren Custom Fit shirt and do like the fit.

Another problem is I have a larger neck (15.5) and smaller frame (32 sleeves, 36, 37 suit). This usually creates shirts that fit well in the neck but a balloon elsewhere.

Advice is appreciated.

I haven't tried Modern Tailor yet, but Cottonwork has given me a decent fit. I have a few RL Custom Fit shirts that I ended up taking to the tailor to correct the bottom balloon.

If you have a hard time fitting shirts, make sure you find one that fits in the neck/shoulders/chest, and take it to the tailor to have him slim it down. I have a smaller neck, broad shoulders/chest, and a small waist from exercise so I usually have to take my off the rack shirts to the tailor.

Cost is about the same for entry level cloth (protip: you can see prices on their websites). Do the BB Extra Slims fit you well? If yes, do that. If not, go with Cottonwork, ModernTailor, whatever.
