Hello all,
I've started discussions with my tailor about an overcoat/topcoat for this winter and I'm considering fabrics. Initially I was thinking of a very heavy wool, almost tweed, but then he showed me a couple of pieces of cashmere he has in stock, a plain charcoal and a charcoal/light grey herringbone, both made in Scotland by Crombie. The charcoal has a nice nap and the herringbone has quite a tight weave and I like them both a lot.
I want the coat to last for many years and although it won't have a hard life, it will be worn often in various circumstances. I realise that cashmere isn't the best choice for longevity but the herringbone in particular seemed quite hardy.
Obviously I know Crombie for their overcoats (both old and new) but I didn't realise they ever produced their own fabric. In the grand scheme of things, how good is their cashmere?
Thanks in advance,
TB
