Where's FXH?

He really should be on standby for such matters.

I sent him a pic of my fiancée. He has had to excuse himself for a minute.

I think the flawed premise is the "silk should not be folded" one. PoP, I would agree with you that satin should not be folded. However, one can iron a very sharp crease into a good-quality silk PS and then fold it into a 3-point configuration with ease.

Yes you could, if your Xmas theme party is 'gangsta'.

PoP, here is a picture of the best-dressed man in history, Edward VIII - not known for his wise-guy affiliations - in black tie:

He is sporting a pocket square, which has clearly been folded.

Care to speculate as to the material it's made from?

Enquiring minds wish to know.

FAIL. Mr Hilter was a smart cookie, but he was no wise guy. The Mob hated him as much as they hated the commies.

Thanks for the link Gezza. They seem to favour a white linen pocket square for evening wear.

Mind you, that site was probably created by a spotty fifteen-year-old living in his parents' basement. But still.

Put This On also favours a linen square (http://putthison.com/post/315935347/blacktie) and they are definitely not a bunch of spotty fifteen-year-olds.

Going through the photos of black tie at http://putthison.com/tagged/Black-Tie, I'd say that either linen or silk would look good.

Although a linen square is considered a good mix/contrast with worsted suit, silk tie, etc, I think a silk square looks better with grosgrain, patent leather, shirt studs etc - and seems to suit the evening better than linen. A bit like satin ties only working at night.

So what happened to that SF Secret Santa proposal that was kicking around a few days ago? Is it getting off the ground?
