Lefty, I know that both you and I are admirers of breeds with a fighting origin, but neither of us are dogfighters. I always thought one of the great virtues of fighting dogs as companion dogs was that they didn't have to fight to be happy and fulfilled. Other than a good deal of exercise and a fair amount of companion obedience work, I didn't "work" my Tosas to any degree, yet they seemed like happy, contented dogs. At least I never saw any signs of frustration or neurosis like destructive chewing, etc.
As I said, Jan, there are many avenues to "work" your dog that will allow him to be what he was intended or at the very least enjoy a fulfilling life that goes beyond the walkies that the average pet dog receives. The question had to do with the interaction between an owner and a working dog versus a pet dog. I think there's a stronger bond. Others may disagree.
