I've only really seen girl wear peacoats, or actually any form of dressy top coat-like outerwear, guess that makes them girl jackets too huh?

You answered your own question.

I've only really seen women wear high heels and lipstick. What shades would look good if my coloring is Summer?

Wow- a lot of banter back and forth! Maybe that settles it for me... quilted jackets, although having their own spot in men's wear, are probably too controversial. I know to some of you this seems like succumbing to those who ridicule any stylish article as being feminine or "gay"(not my original wording). But I'm not looking for a garmet that draws too much attention.

I did check out Barbour as one poster suggested- looks like some quality stuff, thanks for the link. Anyway, the RL jacket is being sent back- I am also looking at something like this... a little less fussy than shiny quilts and leather patches: http://www.jcrew.com/AST/Browse/Mens...6051/96051.jsp

Thanks for the input style forum!

They are not controversial, or feminine. Thousands of men in Britain wear them every day, for a certain social group here they are one of only a few choices for outerwear. They are very common along with the wax jacket amongst smarter people in the country. I have seen a lot of guys in Italy and the north of France wearing them also.

I was kidding about my girlfriend. I mean she does wear one, but she also wears jeans, actually a lot of girls wear them... does that mean jeans are out too?

Don't let a few people put you off what is a very comfortable and practical garment.

Yea - I'm totally confused by this thread - either people are completely ignorant of the origins and common use of this article of clothing, or it's a typical American thing/insecurity - don't think anyone in Europe would even think twice about this question. I don't get it. They're hunting gear - not feminine at all. If anything, women adopting them look rather masculine.

Of equestrian origin I would say. I would not like to go through dense woods with mine.

I think it probably stems from the growing popularity of the fitted version of this jacket for women. I wouldn't say that the jacket that poelow posted looks feminine but the picture of the back of the jacket on the RL website does make it look somewhat fitted and with a suppressed waist. Not really the traditional fit of a quilted hunting jacket. Shorter too than what I typically think of. I think that to some people if a jacket is not big and boxy its not masculine.

I would second this. John Partridge, Barbour, and about every equestrian store you go to have them.

I want a quilted tweed coat though
