Applying face moisturizer

What's the best method to apply a face moisturizer?

I've heard to apply it to a wet face because the water helps the skin to absorb the moisturizer. Is this the best way or should it be applied to dry skin?

I personally wash my face first, then I dry it softly with a clean towel, and then I apply the moisturizer. In this way my skin is not too dry and not too wet...

You should apply moisturizer when your face is damp and/or towel-dried gently. If you apply it when your face is still soaking wet, the moisturizer will slip off your face instead of absorb itself into your skin.

As an aside, it is a very common misconception that everyone needs a moisturizer. You don't want to clog your skin, and not everyone needs a moisturizer.
