I need some help with shoes! I'm pretty much clueless when it comes to fashion and style, but I want to go with something classic that never really goes out of style or if it does it isn't out of style for long. I would also like a pair I can wear daily and can be repaired once they wear down.

I live in South Bend, IN which is in the northern part of Indiana about 90 miles east of Chicago. That said, the area can have somewhat harsh winters, and I would like a shoe that has some amount of traction if I happen to come across a small patch of ice on the 10 ft walk from my car to work. Does that seem like a reasonable concern? or do the traditional soles of a shoe hold up fine?

Again, I want something I can wear daily, my job doesn't entail a lot of moving around or walk. It's pretty much your fresh out of college, entry-level marketing position.

So, what do all of you think? also, how long should I expect a pair I wear daily to last before repairing will no longer get the job done?

I wouldn't need to wear them with suits.....yet, but have the mindset "Dress for the job you want, not for the job you have." I'll mostly be wearing them with slacks, a shirt, and tie. I would like a pair I can take on my ride to the top. I'm not to worried about the cost as long as I can buy something that will last. I guess I want the best bang for my buck.

It sounds like you are looking for a pair of classic shoes that will last.

Have you considered springing for a pair of shell cordovans? Perhaps a plain captoe oxford or blutcher?
