I had a few shirts slimmed (Truzzi and Borrelli) by having the sides taken in and when I got home I noticed that the side gussets were missing? Is this normal? I didn't specify that I wanted the gussets to be kept.

The shirts that I've had slimmed in the past were done by adding darts.

Sounds like your shirts were taken in at the sides, eliminating the gussets. If you wanted darts, perhaps you should have specified so...

I didn't want darts as it was a solid shirt, I wanted the sides to be taken in. I was just unclear as to whether this meant the removal of the gussets.

depending on how much trimmer you went its not always possible to put the gussets back in.

My tailor will do it, as she has in the past, however I've specified to eliminate them now, and I always ask for darts, my shirts are much more comfortable to me now (less baggy).

I think that darts only work on shirts with a plain back. For ones with shoulder pleats or a box pleat, the only way to trim them is to take them in at the sides. Darts + pleats looks marsupialed.

I feel that darts only work on shirts that are striped because they blend in better with the pattern. This is the first time I've need a solid shirt to be slimmed, so I went with having the sides taken in because it'd look better. So no, I don't do both sides and darts.
