Alden Chukka Boot w/barrie last In your opinions and/or experience, which of the two would hold up longer in the long run? Also, which looks to be dressier?

I'd have more faith in the Alden shoe for comfort and longevity. It looks good, too.

The Alden kudu isn't particularly dressy- I'm wearing it right now.

I've worn it in more formal situations, mind, but dressy isn't the way to think about this boot.

Does the sizing run true to size or similar to that of Alden's?

The Barrie last runs a half size large.

The commando sole of the Alden is good for winter.

In fact, the most formal place I've worn the Alden was during a driving rain storm and no one would have been wearing their best shoes- but I think the crepe sole would have been out of place.

Slightly dressier (but still not dressy), all around better looking and more versatile is the Alden boot in dark brown suede, lugged sole and all just like the kudu; which looks like a workboot.

When the manufacturer recommends zero maintenance for a shoe, you know the shoe isn't intended to be dressy.

How much for the RL? If it's a lot cheaper then why not? The Shoemart is having a sale - X% off regular price depending on the amount - they also have some Aldens on sale.

I don't think dressier applies -- these are knocking around shoes.
