Hi guys

Just wondering if you guys can give me your opinion

I recently received a Burberry trench size 52. While the coat fits nicely but as I've been losing a lot of weight recently and fast because my new work out and diet routine. I'm targeting to reach a size 48. I don't usually wear suits or trenches so was wondering if a size 52 would look too big on a 48?

Or is it ok for trenches to be a little but bigger. I can't return it because its a gift and I'm terrible at putting things up for sale online loll

Any advice ? I would imagine trenches are difficult to alter .

Also just wondering is there a way to soften fabric. Like how i would throw denim in the dryer to tumble. The trench is dry clean only but I like my clothing "worn in and seasoned " and soft. Any ideas ?

Trenches are a real pain to get sized right; I wore ones that were a size larger than ideal for years and if you cinch the belt up, it's tolerable. But I've just found a trench I really like, fit-wise and am now busy off-loading my older trenches.*

If yours fits OK now, it will likely look & feel too big once you lose the weight. However, whether that matters to you will depend on how much you care about the appearance of what is essentially a functional item. Given that you're on SF, you will probably care enough for it to bug you. They can be altered, but I'd suggest that it's wise to get the alterations done by someone who's altered trenches before, so as to ensure they know what they're doing with the seams to maintain sufficiently tight/correct stitching to keep the water-resistance. In that same vein, keeping alterations minimal (e.g. waist, sleeve length, overall length) is probably wise.

The fabric will naturally soften up a bit over time & use; don't worry about it feeling a little stiff at first. A few really heavy storms, plus forgetting to hang it up to dry afterwards, and it'll be fine! ;)

*[spam] there's still one left for sale in my sig! Too small a size for you though; more of a 38-40[/spam].
