I just noticed a crack in the neck of my bottle of bacardi. Its big enough where if I turned the bottle upside down, it would slowly leak. It must have been like this for at least a few months. Do you think a lot of the alcohol evaporated away?

Yes, but the amount would be small. At least you have a good excuse to buy a nice heavy glass bottle and stopper to replace it now

well, it's 40% alcohol by volume. Only you know how full the bottle was so you should be able to figure it out based on that.

actually I thought alcohol evaporated far faster than the water. My friend left a bottle of tequila uncapped for a few weeks, it still looked like tequila but there was no alcohol left at all.

I have a delicious solution: drink it all in one sitting and the next day, go down the liquor store and buy a crackless bottle of Ron Matusalem Platino.

But don't you find that a bit of crack gives it that little extra sumpin'-sumpin'?

I enjoy Jack-and-crack but prefer my rum wholly crack-free.

first of all, alcohol and water are both colorless, so you won't see a difference. Alcohol has a lower boiling point so you're right, it will evaporate faster. Since it's a solution it actually lowers boiling point of the solution as a whole until all of the alcohol has evaporated. If you want to test it, try boiling some. The close you are to 78deg C bp, the more alcohol it contains. If it boils close to 100 than it's basically water.

Still, the easiest thing to do is to eyeball the bottle. If there was no significant change in volume then you're obsessing over nothing.
