A New-Years-Eve tradition in Germany: an ancient British music hall sketch, starring Freddie Frinton and May Warden.
The sketch is virtually unknown in the English-speaking world:

And that's the version recorded by German television in 1963 (18 min). Frinton refused to play the sketch in German, therefore, at the time,
it was seen as necessary to present it with a German introduction.

I just saw this thread, and have to say that I love this sketch. English Father and German Mother and I saw this every year. I remember trying to smack my heels together as a child and understanding the pain.

I love it!
Though, in Norway, the tradition is that it's played on the night before Christmas Eve. I think we're fairly unique in that respect. It has a massive cult following as well.

It's shown in Australia on New Years eve. I've watched it a couple of times, but never found it very funny.
