    Milk (the film)

Is it any good? Yes. Sean Penn's performance is stunning. The range of his acting, just from Mystic River to Milk, is amazing. The supporting cast is also very good. The story is well-told. (Now if only Penn could do better with his political interventions>)

Brooks Brothers Cashmere v. Golden Fleece Merino socks

Through a local BB store, I recently ordered six pairs of Golden Fleece sized merino wool socks. By mistake, the store brought in six pairs of 75% cashmere-25% nylon socks. All socks are o-t-c. Because it was their mistake, the store sold me the cashmere blend socks for the (discounted) price of...

What black suit to buy for my wedding?

Congratulations. Take your time. With patience and a little luck you may be able to do much better for a similar amount of money. (When I followed your link, the price was $350.) Also, I agree regarding color. If you want to wear black, rent a tux. Otherwise, I suggest a navy blue solid. I've...

    Any Ivy League Graduates?

Some people simply aren't intellectual. I am, but most are not, and would not take advantage of the opportunities available at a school such as mine. Even most of the people at my school aren't purely "intellectual"; this isn't some kind of thinkers' bohemia (you'd have to wait for a PhD program...

What is Armani Collezioni Soft New Line?

When they say "Line" they do not mean line as in Emporio, Collezioni, etc. They mean it has the design of the jacket. I assume its a very sport look. Which Filenes did you go to? Newton, Mass. I would describe the jacket as elegant rather than sporty. The shoulder has very little structure.

What is Armani Collezioni Soft New Line?

This morning at Filene's Basement, I bought a beautiful navy blue sport coat -- 42S; 100% Cashmere. The label inside the jacket just says Armani Collezioni. But the original store tag -- with a price of $2,595 -- says "Soft New Line." I couldn't find anything about this either at the Armani...

New "go to" gray suit: solid charcoal, subtle herringbone, or sharksin.

In the first Madison picture, the model has the bottom two buttons done up and the top one open. What the heck? http://www.brooksbrothers.com/IWCatP...Parent_Id=418# Fortunately, we're not required to follow BB's fashion(?) dictates.

Fantasy novels worth reading as an adult?

+1 to George RR Martin. The Hobbit and the ring trilogy are always worth re-reading. If you've never read them, you should. Heinlein is great, but, with the exception of Glory Road, he's a master of "hard" science fiction novels. Marion Zimmer Bradley's Darkworld series is also interesting...

New "go to" gray suit: solid charcoal, subtle herringbone, or sharksin.

I'm getting three new suits: a Canali medium-day (not Navy) blue birdseye (from FB) and two BB 1818's (2-for-$998). One 1818 is a solid Navy; the other will be charcoal gray to replace my current "go to" charcoal gray suit, which I'm retiring from my rotation. Initially, I assumed I would get a...

Quality of Golden Fleece OTC socks?

Brooks Brothers is selling their socks for 25% off for a purchase of six or more. What do people think about the quality of their merino wool/nylon Golden Fleece otc socks? Are they a good value? They're said to be made in England. Any ideas who makes them for BB?

    2008-2009 NCAA Football Season

In an exciting conclusion to the 2008 college student football season, Harvard beat Yale 10-0 on the 40th anniversary of its historic 29-29 triumph, to share the Ivy League championship with Brown. For those so inclined, attention now turns to the remainder of the college professional football...

    Herringbone

That depends on the size of the herringbone and to a lesser extent on the cloth. Large herringbones are for informal suits. Patterns that are small ,discreet and dark are used for formal wear. The more formal weaves are worsteds. The larger ones tend to be tweed. Would people consider the...

When and where to buy quality suits at or under $500?

Where are these mythical Marshalls' with good merchandise? Most seem to have only crap, and if there's anything good, it seems to only be in odd sizes. Not in Boston or Newton, Mass. The Newton, Mass., Filene's Basement often has a good selection. The (I hope temporary) downtown Boston FB not...

    CustomMen v BB 1818?

It turns out that the $399 price is only for a package of three suits, with which one gets a fourth suit "free." The price for one suit is $599, which, however, is credited against the package price, if one buys two more suits.
