PL is the most formal whereas SL is a step down. As DB is least formal jacket style, IMO DB/SL works great for a less formal BT - restaurant, lounge, casino, someone's home, etc. while the PL lets you fit in better with higher level BT events - galas, balls, dinner with the royal family, etc...- Nick Charles

Will only add that looking at the picture, am guessing this is early to mid-thirties and a viewing of the movies of this period show a lot of mixing of white tie and black tie elements. Sounds like you'll look great which is the number one goal for your wedding day. 1) No vent is most correct and will look the best but 1-2 vents gives you more mobility for things like putting your arms around someone for a picture for example. Agree with the others that ventless is ideal. It just looks better. The only downsides for me have been that I have the tendency to put my hands in my pockets, thus killing the visual benefits of ventless. If it helps, for my wedding I went with patent leather slippers because, being such a big day, I didn't want to worry about whether my laces were tied or if my shoes were scuffed. In group photos, when I stretch my arms out around people on either side it pulls up the front of the buttoned SB shawl jacket so as to look a little silly. I added the cummerbund to my SB kit because I found that realistically, I couldn’t always keep my jacket buttoned at events and thus wanted to have something there to keep the formal look.- Nick Charles
