    denim arcuate

If you go that route, make sure the tailor has the color thread and thickness of thread to match what the jean already uses. The tailor would remove the pocket, sew your design, then reattach the pocket. If the pocket has bar-tacks currently, you will most likely not get them added back - I...

Glad to see you working with BOF. The article was good. Claudio Del Vecchio’s intentions with Brooks Brothers seemed sincere to me. Like it wasn’t only about the money. I respect that he owned factories and collaborated with designers to build prestige. He had a vision and was willing to be...

There were two Gambert factories in Newark. One shut down last month. I believe it was a similar size factory as Gitman.

Another factory is shutting down is what's changing and is the loss imo. It’s the 3rd US shirt factory that I know of that has shut down since the pandemic started. All 3 were big factories for the US.

WWD reports Gitman in Pennsylvania is shutting down. Machinery is being moved to a factory in Tennessee. Employees are offered jobs at TN facility or Individualized Shirts in NJ. I see it as a sizable loss to Made in USA menswear.

Any reasonably priced high rise denim for men, athletic cut?

$387 is a lot. I’m looking into if we use Made in USA denim for a jean, could we ship into Canada under NAFTA. Also, I’m looking into an HTS code that will allow us to ship fit-trial jeans into Canada under an “alterations or repair” provision that would bypass taxes for the “fitting” - which...

Calling On Home Sewers for a Project

I'm trying to help a doctor at MSK in NYC. He was able to send me medical fabric, I made and shipped 3 samples to him today. If it’s fit approved we’ll do more. It’s a stop gap imo. If you have this medical fabric, I’ll make you a few. I think it can be boiled each night to help clean it. DM me...

Calling On Home Sewers for a Project

Grocery store workers may need masks. I just got off the phone with a grocery store in NYC that has 250 employees, as of today, they have 100 masks left. A mask I can make (at this point) may not meet medical-grade hospital standards, but there are other workers on the front-lines that need...

Calling On Home Sewers for a Project

From the CDC website: “In settings where facemasks are not available, health care providers might use homemade masks (e.g., bandana, scarf) for care of patients with COVID-19 as a last resort.” I’ve reached out to several local agencies, politicians, and hospitals offering to help. At this...

Calling On Home Sewers for a Project

I know you’re busy…could you give me the “industry name” of the medical-grade fabric that’s necessary for these products? And have you had any luck finding this fabric in unexpected places in your community? I can search my community.

One of my seamstresses made this for me Wednesday before we shut down. I didn't ask her to, she was trying to do something nice. It's dress shirt fabric. This mask would do nothing other than (maybe) make someone feel more protected if they had nothing else. But if local health workers need help...

Thanks for posting about Hickey Freeman. That was news to me. I searched and found articles about what they're doing. I reached out requesting information.

I talked with someone in the NJ government today, basically offering our factory to help anyway we can. He moved the conversation to email with other NJ contacts rather quickly. If they need us, I'll update the thread.

Looks like skepticism or cynicism around DTC x VC partnerships is being written about more regularly. The term "GMO brands" could catch on. From article: - Like GMO food, GMO brands are the overgrown, monstrous, and tasteless versions of the real thing. They show up out of nowhere, grow...

Outdoor voices founder steps down as CEO. I think she had a good idea and the timing was right for her brand. Seems I'm reading more about young DTC brands taking a lot of VC money, not knowing exactly how to manage that money, and getting into trouble. I would've liked to have seen her go a bit...

    Fashion Impact and Ethics Thread

Short and new information (to me) in this article. - At one time, there was a good market in Ghana for "dead white men's clothes" - now it's mostly throw away clothes. A organization has started called "Dead White Men's Clothes" to fight it. - 100 containers of "charitable" clothing arrive in...
