For what it's worth, most of my AEs were bought used because that's how I transitioned into "expensive" shoes. Some have worked out better than others but I'd have to say aside from making it easier to get started with AEs it isn't something I recommend unless you're going extremely cheap just...- Soupy

Also, the wear on the sole of the second one seems much more significant to me. I don't think it would last nearly as long as the first one and it also likely means the insole will have shaped more significantly to previous owner.- Soupy

Does the other shoe resemble this one or do you have one "standard" walnut and one with this striping? If they both look like this I'd keep them and wear the heck out of them. It looks like a very natural years-old patina to me. Of course, if they aren't a match I wouldn't be nearly so...- Soupy

Some good info in this one so far. He's mentioned an upcoming Chelsea boot on the 1943 last, the "Liverpool" in black calf, walnut calf, and chocolate suede. Sounds like a real winner to me.- Soupy

I agree with SLCRich, the rules are just guidelines so if you are digging the McAllisters then go ahead and rock them. If you want a little more casual then you could pick up a blucher.
