Grant Stone is a small company that has been making goodyear welted shoes using traditional construction methods that has already built up quite a reputation. They’re considered outstanding value-for-money.

The Diesel boot is Grant Stone’s classic plain toe boot makeup, crafted from a thick aniline pull-up Horween Chromexcel leather, which is beautifully rich dark brown. Also has brass eyelets, veg-tanned leather insole, welt, midsole and outsole, a cork filler with steel shank, and full-grain leather heel counters.

Retail $370. Worn a couple of dozen times and just starting to wear in, with minor signs of wear (see detailed photos). Size US9 on Leo last, which Grant Stone describes as “a snug heel fit with a slightly wider forepart. It runs a little large so we suggest going down half a size from your Brannock device size.” I rotate two pairs of Grant Stone plain toe bluchers in the same last as my daily work shoes and they are supremely comfortable.
