My employer Mr. S is thinning his extensive bespoke wardrobe in anticipation of a move to warmer climes. These are his notes on this lovely garment:
A bespoke peak-lapel topcoat made for me by Mimmo (Domenico) Pirozzi of Via Chiaia in Napoli, about 5 years ago. Sig. Pirozzi is a favorite tailor of many in-the-know Neapolitan business people, and was recommended to me by a local friend. Mimmo specializes in a now less-well-known tradition of Neapolitan structured tailoring, and produces a beautiful softly constructed spalla insellata with no pad and a high armhole, quite a special thing in Naples.
The material is a rich vintage cashmere Mimmo had in his private stock. This thing is every bit the grail, old-school italian overcoat. Literally what Naples aristocrats wear to the Teatro San Carlo (even though it is never actually cold lol). I am not finding myself headed to the opera so much these days, and exercise has caused this coat to fit a bit snug on me now, so I would love to see this beautiful garment go to a happy home where it would be worn and cared for!
Completely handmade with beautiful handwork throughout. I replaced the buttons with vintage English matte horn buttons from the sadly now defunct Tender Buttons in NYC. There is the slightest fleabite nick on the back of the edge of the collar, invisible to all but detailed inspection in bright light. The coat was 4000 Euro when I bought it so this is a steal.
