Any hope to alter this jacket?

Hello everyone,

I found this cashmere jacket at a thrift store for a few bucks yesterday. It is a size 38R, when I usually wear a 36R.

It feels a little big, especially around the waist and on the sleeves. Do you guys think it is worth taking it to a tailor?

Yes. Or rather no. Meaning, damn good fit as is. Swell find. Leave her alone and wear it well.

It might be a little large in the back and sleeves, but before you have it altered, try having it pressed and see how it looks. A bit of room in a jacket is usually a good thing, and any alterations would have to be very subtle. Maybe try wearing a piece of knitwear underneath as well, and see how it feels.

Thank you, I appreciate the advice. I may see it as too large because I am used to slimmer cuts (I have a small waist and small forearms compared to my shoulders and upper arms).

Taking in the waist is an easy alteration. I would advise doing so, it appears a bit full.

What do you think of tapering the sleeves too? The length feels right but they feel a little baggy compared to my other jackets

The problem with the sleeves looks more like the pitch, which refers to the angle at which they are attached to the shoulder. In bespoke jackets, the pitch is tailored to the way your own arms rest; an OTR jacket is gonna go for an average, which could account for the baggy wrinkles. A good tailor can fix that by removing the sleeves and altering the pitch. Or it could be something else. Ask him.

By a lot? Maybe it is the pose on the pictures, I measured the sleeves and they are really close to my other tailored jackets sleeves lenghts.

Thank you for your help. My pose could be a little unnatural as I set up a 3s timer on my phone to take the pictures and may not had time to properly stand. But good point I will ask a tailor.

Someone else mentioned the sleeves being too short. The jacket sleeves are about 1/2 - 1/3 inch shorter than most of my other jackets. But I am not sure there is enough fabric to lengthen them. I also don't want to spend too much on alterations if possible.
