My tailor said he cannot do them.
How is that possible? Unless all you have him do is hem pants, I'd find a new tailor.
It's very possible. It requires a dedicated machine to cut button holes, and many tailors don't have em. Especially way the hell out here in west texas!

I don't think that's correct. My tailor sends them out because whoever he sends them to can sew more nicely than he, but I don't think it's a question of having the necessary equipment. It's a time-intensive and presumably finicky task.
A hand sewing costs more money since it takes more time and skill. Still even a good seamstress should be able to handle this. A full on tailor shouldn't blink.
Well they certainly blink out here in west texas. I've called over five tailors, ranging from cheap to very expensive, who won't do it because they don't have the button-hole machine.
I've had the same experience here in Edmonton. I still don't know of a tailor in Edmonton who has any of these machines.
