I wonder if it would have still been stolen if she hadn't made such a big fuss about how valuable and expensive it was when refusing to go through...or if her little song and dance about her own wealth was what drew attention to it for whoever nabbed it.

At times I've travelled back and forth to the US from Toronto every week, at other times every couple of months. When I've gone frequently I had a TN visa, but let it lapse when I only went occasionally for training or internal meetings. Of course you get the little quiz if you don't have a visa (where are you staying? who are you seeing? what kind of work are you doing?)

One time when I knew I wasn't going to be back for a while I jammed my leftover US cash in my passport. I had some 'splainin' to do next time I did return, without a visa, and without thinking handed my passport to the customs officer with a hundred bucks tucked inside.

Greasing the palm is expected in some places ... but the US/Canadian border ain't one of 'em.
