What do you think of Jackson Pollock?

I think in the absence of Western reaction against Socialist Realism it may have passed with far less fanfare.

I think this was key.
His work was like a shot of whiskey amidst a roomful of weak tea at the time.

That said I've seen his work, Greyed Rainbow, at the Art Institute of Chicago. It impressed me and struck me much more than I thought it would. I sometimes go figure drawing and draw in my spare time as a creative release and strive for realism in my own work. I don't consider myself an abstract art connoisseur by any means and usually prefer earlier periods when I go to museums. That said some of racist term for people of Polish descent's work feels visceral and compelling to me. It seems even more so when reading about his life and learning about his inner demons and struggles and thinking how it might affect the passionate frenetic creation of his work.
