Well Hume is annoying enough that he doesn't need that many pages to create frustration. I guess I should read it someday.

I'll add the one conne recommended to my reading list and go from there.

I need some modern fiction recommendations. I like british authors and have read a lot of the booker award winners from the last 15 years.

I just read the wind up bird chronicles too.. what did you think?

I thought it was good, but I felt a lot was lost in translation/that if I had a better grasp of japanese mythology and culture I could understand some of the symbolism better

The Remains of the Day by Ishiguro. Probably the best novel I've ever read. Won the Booker, didn't it? Have you read any Banville?

Im very late to the party with this one, but:

The Rest is Noise - It's the story of classical/art music in the 20th century. The most erudite work Ive ever read on the topic, Im been booking seats at every performance possible since picking up this book.

The running book sucked. Wind-up was great.

We'll agree to disagree. But I genuinely think that Wind Up was a thousand times better than the running book. It's one of my favorite handful of books.

I read the remains of the day and LOVED it. So good. I will check out Banville

my fave of his was hardboiled wonderland or maybe norwegian wood
both still left me ambivalent

his writing cleanses the palate but like a glass of water, does not leave too much of an impression
