I am getting married on October 20th in NYC and am looking for the last odds and ends of what I am wearing. I would appreciate the forum's help in finalizing the details of the ensemble. I am wearing a MTM charcoal birdseye SB 2B suit with a vest. This picture resembles the suit fabric the best:http://www.huddersfieldcloth.com/images/F3143.jpg. It's nearly black, even in the brightest sunlight.

The wife-to-be has requested that I wear a white tie and shirt, all of which I am for, but am having a difficult time finding white ties that I particularly like. I have searched online, at local tailors, Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdales, Nordstrom and the only one that I particularly liked was a Duchamp I saw at Bloomingdales, but the tight pattern may clash with the birdseye. I need a tie that is pretty substantial in thickness, since I am wearing a two button spread collar shirt, but everything I have found in white but they look cheap and generic. I have found a plethora of satin white ties but again they all feel a bit "prom" for me. Definately want something with a pattern to it. I would appreciate you guy's pointing me in the right direction.

Also, I am looking for a white pocket square with a rolled grey or black edge. Should it be silk twill, paisley, linen, ...Opinions?

Shoes to be are black cap toes, silver tie bar(not showing), silver and MOP cufflinks, watch is silver with black leather strap, all in all monochromatic; bride's orders. I am a bit of a peacock so am trying to "express" myself through fabric textures and qualities.

Any opinions of things that sound too out there or suggestions are greatly appreciated!

white tie sounds dicey. white tie/white shirt/white pocket square sounds very dicey. Is there a reason she insists on a white tie? What about a light grey one with some texture? I would stay away from satin ties and buying one in a color other than white will give you the opportunity to wear it again.

The white tie with the nearly-black suit makes me think of a poorly-done black/white tie outfit that gets most of the details wrong.

To be honest this is something that she has "imagined for a long time". Trying to convince the Architect/Interior Designer that her "vision" seems a bit dicey is futile. I am at the mercy of "how things will photograph," the convention that only the bride and groom are wearing stark black and white, the bridal party is wearing grey's and thus we will stand out, etc.

Repeat wearing is not much of a concern either I just want to make sure she gets what she wants and I can in some regard be who I am. At whatever cost

If you really want a white long tie, you're sufficiently outside the bounds of good taste that it may be hard to find a quality maker with one for sale.

Oh, understood. I think I will buy a white one to convince her its not the route to take. I have found some in silver sheperd check, grey tartan, and others in wool that I feel would do the trick. The one you linked is a handsome tie my only reservation is about the scale of the pattern and the scale of the texture in the birds eye fabric.

There's nothing "wrong" with a wool tie really, but it is then no longer the "traditional" wedding look, and is also considered less formal.

I only thought of wool given the venue. It is a morning ceremony outdoors on the High Line. I expect it to be quite cool and given the casual nature of the place, wool may be suitable. To be honest it is a small casual wedding that has become a bit more formal as we approach the date.

I would try to avoid white tie and white shirt. For my personal taste I would leave the vest as well. It might be advisable as well to avoid silver as it always looks like a marriage tie.

Ummm....first of all, the guy is getting married. So that seems like a good thing. Second of all, very few people in the real world actually associate this kind of tie with weddings in a conscious way.
