Hello.

I am bad at matching patterns, but trying to learn. Do this suit and tie match? To my eye they do, and look summer-ey in the process, but I know there's the rule to not combine two small patterns. Are my eyes deceiving me, or is this an exception to the rule?

I would nix the herringbone white shirt and wear something with less texture.

It doesn't clash, but it feels very washed out, especially as there isn't a great deal of fabric contrast between the suit and tie.

I agree, but I kind of like the washed out feel.

Here's something with much more contrast. Too dark for the suit?

A more distant shot would help. I don't think the second tie is too dark for the suit though.

The second is definitely better than the first.

Thanks for the feedback everybody!

Good points were made about determining how much contrast I should aim for. I read Dressing the Man, but I forgot about that point. I have medium contrast features, with darker hair.

I really like the light tie, and I'm trying to find a way to wear it. Right now the navy suit suggestions seems the most appealing. The only other option would be a darker shirt, which would make me feel like a future used car salesman attending prom.

A more distant shot would help. I don't think the second tie is too dark for the suit though.

Here's a shot further out, although it's still quite close. I'm away from home and can't get a shot from greater distance at the moment.

It doesn't look as bad far out. My guess is the texture in tie is going to resolve to solid, and it will look like a striped tied with a slightly textured suit.

I think it probably does look solid further out. The second pic of the light blue tie is a pretty good approximation of what you would see standing next to me, though, and I want textures to work together at that range too.

I have another knit tie with similar texture, and a burgundy grenadine from KW on the way. Since the consensus seems to be 'it doesn't clash' and 'it probably looks better from further out', I think I'll stick to solid ties with this suit, or ties that have larger patterns.
