I guess I just though a lot of the properties across the river were really dope. The minor league baseball stadium/team looked fun too.

Re: Charleston WV. The minor league games are fun (as they are pretty much everywhere) but it gets old when that's basically the most popular thing to do during the summer. At least the evening summer night temps aren't still 85+ degrees like they are in the South.

Almost all those old houses on Kanawha Blvd (along the river) are now law firms. There are a few nice lofts downtown though.

I've had moonshine every time I've visited. It was much better than I expected.

yeah i mean Sacs a cool little place. Modestos not even bad. i mean i'm basically from modesto/stockton and ive been to wayyyy more miserable places, stocktons gettin pretty ******* low on the list though

If you like cowboy boots, it's not bad since they got a lot of makers there. Sort of like Northhampton to English shoemaking. I can't think of anything else good about El Paso.

Have been a couple of times. My impression was a very dirty city huddled against an even dirtier city right across the border. I would pick moving back to the Detroit area before moving to El Paso.

I would agree with the first part, as I've never been to Detroit I can't comment on the second part. I do enjoy Mexican culture so I would pick El Paso over Detroit.

It's striking to be on the bridge over the Rio Grande, look at El Paso with its downtown in the foreground and close-up mountains, and then turn and look at the squalor of low-lying Juarez with its far-off mountains. I'd say that El Paso/Juarez is the raw version of San Antonio or Phoenix. If you like down-to-earth people and simple pleasures, El Paso is a nice city. Of course, any city with a high Mexican population is going to be more laid-back.

Agree. And surprisingly, the crime rate in El Paso is among the lowest of large cities in the U.S. For that reason alone I'd take it over Detroit any day. It's a nicer city than people think.

Dood, you think there is no Mexican culture in Detroit? There is a fairly substantial population of Mexicans in an area by I-75 and the bridge.

Also, with Detroit, you have a host of other cultures, like Polish, Irish, Greek, things like the DIA, Hillbury and Bonastelle Theatre, the entire Great Lakes experience and you're a four hour car ride from Toronto, the UP, Chicago, etc.

El Paso you are exactly four hours from no where and have narco-rap.

Mexicantown. I was shocked how many Mexicans lived in Detroit actually, you would never think so. I guess people of all races and cultures flocked there when industry was booming.
