Overall, I thought it was good. GF thought it was slow/didn't pull her in as much as mcconaughey's weirdness, but I don't know if that criticism is fair. We didn't watch the first season together, but both of us started it after the season had started which means you might have zipped through 2 or 3 episodes in your first sitting.

That episode would certainly have been enough to get me to watch episode 2 immediately following if I had them all queued up.

They are being more ambitious by doubling the main cast...that's going to take more time to develop. Hopefully it holds together. Remains to be seen if a TV version of Vernon, CA can be as interesting as the swamp people down in the bayou. LA and its industrial outskirts have already been pretty well represented in noir.

Ugh. If they are going to have him live, they should've used a 9mm. A shotgun blast survival seems really far fetched unless they are going to say it's bean bags or something.

Oh well I will not whine and jump to any more conclusions. Sorry for being Lefty in the Walking Dead thread.

Also, thoughts on Taylor's relationship with his mom. Seems like there was definitely some diddling going on there in his youth.

also, maybe the thing McAdam's partner was hesitant to try in the first episode, it was group sex?

No silly there was no 3rd person in their bedroom. Clearly she wanted him to put it in her pooper and he was being a ***** because it was icky.

I figured bean bags or other survival until the second execution style shot...

I guess be could still be alive, but that is also one good way to clear up having too many characters.

The trailer for the show has a scene not yet aired, with Farrell. At the :38 mark.

I am getting tired of the one upmanship of shows killing off its main characters for shock value.
Boardwalk Empire waited until the end of Season 2, Game of Thrones was near the end of Season 1 and now True Detective offed its main character at the end of the second episode?
Also, the second episode was worthless dribble and the only saving grace was Rick Springfield as the creepy psychiatrist.
