Hi everyone,

Haven't been posting much on here recently due to some difficult times. I unfortunately lost my mother in January (I'm only 20 so its a bit more difficult) and things have been rough dealing with the loss and finishing my college semesters.

To celebrate my mothers life, my father and I are heading to Europe on Good Friday (April 18th). We are flying to Barcelona first, and staying there from the Saturday, to the Wednesday.

We don't have huge amounts of time, and I realize it's Easter weekend but we will make the most out of it. The reason we can't make the entire trip longer is because I need to be back in college in May.

So for Barcelona, I need anything you can give me. Restaurants, sites and shopping. We found a cool spot called Bubo Bar but other than that we need some help. My father is a chef, but we'd love to experience true Spanish tapas and culture. We will most likely go to the main tourist attractions and anything else you can suggest (something different). We will also do the Camp Nou stadium tour (huge football fans). Are there any good stores, shopping area's you can recommend? Mid range in price? Because the Euro is high right now (1 CAD = 1.50 Euro), value is key. I'm very excited for Barcelona and also smoking some nice cigars. Found a good cigar dealer called Gimeno. We are staying at the Soho Barcelona.

We are then flying over to Milan for a couple days. Again, any food/bar/shopping suggestions. Would love to pick up some unique and high quality Italian shirts/casual wear/shoes. I do realize a lot of the manufactures are in Naples but still. Help a brother out. If you can recommend any good barbers as well..We are staying at the Best Western Felice Casati.

Lastly, we are flying to Dusseldorf and visiting family (my entire family is German). We will also go to Berlin for 2 days and check out Kadewe and any other recommendations you may have. Also heard, there are a number of decent outlets.

Thank you very much for any help you can provide.

Mario,

Sorry for your loss. I've visited all the cities on your itinerary, and they're all wonderful and represent a good way to celebrate your mom's life. I don't really have recommendations, but instead want to wish you and your father a good trip and all the best as you cope with your loss.

Sorry for your loss!

I hope this does not come too late for your Berlin trip. Here are a few nice places to shop for classic menswear:

Brummer: Tauentziehnstr. 17 (close to KaDeWe ... the shop is upstairs - not so easy to find).
A little jewel for those who like classic English style with a few Italian infusions. On offer are MTM suits, RTW suits by Scabal, Kiton and Regent (high quality suits made entirely in Germany), shirts, coats (one of the few places where one can still buy quality classic trench coats), colorful trousers, socks, ties and last but not least a decent selection of Crockett & Jones shoes.

Edsor: Hackesche Höfe, Rosenthaler Str. 40/41 ... this is the flagship store, there are more locations listed on their website
A local maker of nice ties, bowties, scarves and pocket squares - all handmade in their own "factory" in Berlin.

Chelsea Farmer Club: Schlüterstr. 50
Tweed, corderoy, Prince Charles and gin tonic.

Patrick Hellmann: Kurfürstendamm 190-192
Not sure how well made their products are, but the store is worth visiting.

Falke: Flagship Store in Kurfürstendamm 36.
Large selection of quality socks - much cheaper than in the United States.

Schuhkonzept: Bleibtreustraße 24
Nice selection of Goodyear-welted shoes (John Lobb, Carmina, ...)

Soer: Bleibtreustr. 33
A German chain with nice items.

KaDeWe: Tauentzienstraße 21-24
The clothing and shoe offering is less than spectacular, but the food & beverage section is a must-see.

Always make sure to get the paper work for VAT refunds done!

Enjoy!!!
