^^^ Stowa's are pretty sick. Yours has inspired me to get one. Is the only way to get them from Stowa themselves? I really like the Marine automatic and I think it's like 600 bucks from them which seems like a really good deal but I'm worried about shipping to the U.S. Also, they recommend upgrading the movement for a couple hundred I think. Is this worth it? What are the benefits? Sorry for the newb questions.
I was just checking on their site and if I ordered now it looks like it would come in towards the end of November. Any idea of what the customs fees would be?
Yes, you can only purchase from Stowa direct thru their website (if you're in the USA). They overnight ship via FedEx (it took 1 day from Germany to my door step!), so shipping shouldn't be a problem. I'm sure FedEx will send me a customs bill pretty soon, I'll let you know how much that comes out to be...
I would recommend against getting the COSC upgraded movement and save your $$. I timed my watch and it seems to be about +6 sec/day, and from what I've read, they settle to about +4 sec/day, which is pretty good IMHO. Plus, the standard ETA movement looks damn good, without whatever visual upgrades the COSC movement might come with.
I'm liking the Marine Auto very much, especially since this is my first mechanical watch and the second hand & see thru movement motions are fascinating to look at. You won't regret it, especially if you are looking for a minimalistic and very legible design.
