Visited the Viberg website and do they call their cordovan "Horsebutt". Technically is correct but wonder why they don't call it cordovan

Not the same. Horsebutt is a horsehide boot. They list their cordovan offerings as shell cordovan. I imagine the horsebutt is the outer hide from the hindquarters. Horween has a good video that makes the distinction more clear.

Beautiful boots! You obviously have experience with Viberg. May I ask, how does the sizing run in the 2030 last? I happen to wear 9.5D in Alden's Barrie, 10D in most Allen Edmonds lasts. Thanks for any info!

I posted today in the Viberg thread about my experience. It was suggested to me to size down a full size in the 1035 and 2030 and worked out great. I'm a 13D in most shoes, 12.5 Barrie and purchased a 12 in Viberg 1035. My advice would be a 9 in the Viberg

Thanks Thrift. I'm the same size as you and go 9.5 Viberg on the 2030 (usually with thinner socks). I think most would recommend only a half down for 2030. Maybe a bit more forgiving in Mike's larger sizes.

So, pretty much size the same as Barrie? Does the shell cordovan seem to run a bit roomier? My Tankers seem to run looser than my non-shell Barrie boots and shoes. Thank you Sir!

It would be a little easier to identify if you could get a clear pic of some or all of the model number. A lot of shoe makers have pretty recognizable font. That plus the numbers you can read would help narrow things down

Does it not also contain the shells, albeit not tanned in the cordovan manner? I thought I read so somewhere.

This is as clear as it gets.not ink,it's actually carved into the leather.

If you look at the sole just in front of the heel stack there is some writing there. Not a name I recognize and it's not clear enough for me to make it out completely

Shell Chukkas.jpg

Given the code, the age of the shoe, etc, I think they may have been something like a custom made Florsheim or Hanover.
