Capnwes - that's 27 some-odd items you posted right there! Incredible.

I aspire to be that fluent in the future. Well done.

How well do Zanella jackets sell on the Bay? I see them occasionally at one shop in town.

From my experience, they don't do that well on Ebay. But those are pretty uncommon though. Do you mind taking some measurements and maybe proxy it?

Many, many moons ago I posted that I found some ties with stains and I was going to conduct a scientific experiment on tie stain removal. I'm far too lazy to requote myself.

Following that, Catside was nice enough to share his method. As so often, I find myself asking "Why didn't I listen to Catside?"

So the good news is I ruined nothing better than an old-ass Burberry and a few very wide vintage Brooks Brothers. They were very classic patterns, though, and would have done well in my rotation. Alas, they are no more.

Thesis: Can ties be cleaned via the Oxy method?
Results: In a word: no.
Materials and method: Soak process previously described by JESSE, P.T.O., found here: http://putthison.com/post/441812762/cleaningshirts
Results: WTF do you want me to say? Every red tie ran like a mother and nearly ruined the shirts I was soaking. Jesus, the whole bath turned pink in SECONDS. Don't. Just don't. K?

Like all scientific failures, I plan to accept the results with quiet dignity and grace.

Yeah, but Wes is one of the hardest working man in the world of thrift. He usually puts about few hundred miles a week. I doubt there are many people who are willing to go that far. Yeah, I'd say he has a problem...I wish I had his problem...

Wait, so what is Catside's magic method?

OK, so as a newb who's gone through the experience of reading through this entire thread I thought I'd toss my 2 pennies in for the next newb who is told, "read the thread" and explain how I did it.

My first post was a couple hundred pages into the thread and like a good boy I did the leg work.  It doesn't mean I didn't ask a dumb question or two or make a dumb buy or three but I know I left a lot more behind than I would have otherwise if I hadn't done the reading.  A couple of times I didn't get a chance to check in to keep up and I fell behind (yep, this place moves fast).  Here's how I minimized the time.

1.  Change your settings to view 100 posts per page.  500-odd pages looks a lot less daunting than thousands of pages and the browsing is quicker.
2.  Keep an eye on who the heavy hitters are - those that have a bunch of posts in the thread (Dig has a list up somewhere back <--- there), the ones who are quoted often, and the ones who quote others often.
3.  Look for the quotes.  There's a reason - one way or another - why something is being quoted.  Figure out why.
4.  Look for the smileys.  They don't tell the whole story but they can be the note left in the margin from the previous owner of the book.
5.  You don't have to read every last word in the thread.  There's some bickering and arguing and debating sprinkled throughout.  Learn to scan over them.

Hope that helps someone.  Oh, and don't be afraid to make a mistake or two.  Everyone has and everyone will.  Your money doesn't always have to be +EV as long as you learn from it.

This caught my eye and I had a WTF moment and then figured it out. Here's the most recent roll call and as always, if you're not in 3 figures, you're not a playa, yet. :teach:
