@sipang I hope you don't mind me asking whether you're a guy or a girl?
nah I don't mind
:I have been thinking for a few weeks about starting an "SF Editorial thread" or "Styled shots thread" or something like that. Partly because the landscape around here has been so...bleak for the past few weeks, and partly because I am getting sick of looking at mirror-shot waywt's, blurry cell-phone pictures, and other acontextual photos that communicate neither beauty nor narrative. I kind of want to go trek out onto the plains with a tripod and take some really bizarrely-styled photos featuring gnarled trees and torn fabric.
There would be none of that "look at this thing I just bought" garbage, and the only requirements would be that it told some sort of story, and was more than one photo. Not in words, per se, but the idea that a picture can communicate something is being destroyed by the "what I am wearing" posts. Pictures of things that are not clothes would also be allowed. I always enjoy it when people post "lifestyle" photographs, because it's so much more interesting than the SW+D mannequin pose that we'v sort of unconsciously adopted from MC - not stiff, but still robotic, as though we're replicants programmed for slouchiness.
Does anyone want to participate? I'm feeling like I have this great camera and a lot of good ideas and maybe it's time to go out there and make some art.
Alternatively, this could be turned into some sort of contest, although longevity would be nice
