though not entirely unrelated, I've always regarded suede shoes as being a bit informal/casual, and not really appropriate with suits in general. Is this a misconception?
I would not wear suede shoes with a suit. I would wear them more casually...like with a sports jacket and slacks...or just slacks and a shirt. Also, I think it's OK to be more flexible on belt choice when matching with suede shoes...doesn't have to be a suede belt.

But I have to admit those pictures up there look very good.

Still, I wouldn't wear those suede shoes...I think non-suede black oxfords would look even better, especially since he's pairing with a 3 piece suit. The suede shoes look a little mis-matching in the 2nd pic to me.

Even with the suede shoes, I don't his outfit requires a suede belt...and actually a suede belt might look out of balance with the 3 piece suit. He could be pairing those suede shoes with a black leather belt and it would still look good.

To some extent, the appropriateness of suede shoes with a suit depends on the style of the shoes. No one's going to recommend a pair of Desert Boots with a suit--and maybe it's through our association of suede shoes with these and casual white and dirty bucks that makes them seem casual--but let's remember that no less than the Duke of Windsor made suede shoes acceptable by wearing dress suedes with suits. The Ferrragamos posted at the beginning of this thread clearly fall into the dress category.

They are very nice shoes but they are bluchers. I think these bals however look smashing with a grey flannel suit.
