I definitely saw a flier online that was advertising this in one store in Washington State. It was real.

I remember seeing flyers for the event too.
Not too surprising it was at Issaquah. That's the home of Costco corporate headquarters.

Looks like these events (or something similar) is back on the Costco site and it looks like they are planning quite a few store events now

I would never buy socks from there unless I admired them without first knowing what they were. Sure enough, Costco carries them. I picked a few (packs) up and they are comfortable, plus you don't feel bad about throwing them out.

Limited background colors like navy, charcoal or black in a multi-pack with several small, neat designs on them.

Hah, I have some of those socks, pretty nice but they seem to fuzz/shed fibers in the heel and toe quite a bit making me think they won't last long. But very cheap.
