Has anyone listened to their new song Tarantula? They are one of the first rock bands I ever listened to and have loved them for a long time. I think they are touring again, wish I wasn't in HK, I"d really love to see them.

Wasn't too impressed with what I heard.

Like you, they were one of my first favorite rock bands, and I still listen to them today. 1979, Soothe, Mayonnaise, Galapagos, Thirty-Three, and Said Sadly are some of my favorite songs of all time.

Disarm was one of the first songs I learned to play on the guitar! ... I'm constantly amazed by the longevity of rock bands (or music in general), and their relevance to so many diff generations.

Disarm was an awesome song. I haven't listend to SP in ages. I think I need to rip my old CDs to my media center. Quiet was great too. Not many bands like them around anymore...

Every single track on Siamese Dream kicks ass. Probably one of the best rock albums ever IMHO.

One of my fav. songs is actually Pennies, one of their b-sides, I believe. A lot of their non-album versions I've listened to are gold. The acoustic version of Mayonaise is also up there

I was pretty obsessed with The Smashing Pumpkins in junior high and high school. My interest has waned quite a bit since then and after Zwan and Billy Corgan's solo material, I wasn't expecting much from the newly (half) reunited Smashing Pumpkins.

After listening the studio version of Tarantula and recent live recordings of other new songs, though, I'm kind of optimistic. I don't think the new stuff is spectacular by any means, but it's not nearly as bad as I thought it would be, and, really, that's more than good enough for me.

I still don't know how Billy Corgan can get away with calling it The Smashing Pumpkins, though. Half of the original band is gone (and James was always my favorite member, anyway).

AFAIK virtually all of the creative input only ever came from Billy and Jimmy.

I listened to the iTunes clip of Tarantula. Kinda sounds like they're trying to copy their vintage sound.
