I do appreciate the input, although as others have suggested, I do cross cross lacing for all bluchers/derbies and reserve bar lacing for oxfords/balmorals.

And many thanks to all for steering me in the right direction. I had ben led astray by a dear friend who gave me hell over my criss-cross lacing. I will give this another look.

It's all a matter of personal preference. I have seen quite a few pictures of shoes like the Pembroke with bar lacing and it doesn't look bad, it just isn't how I wish to lace mine.

Truthfully it's all personal preference. Some prefer a particular lacing style for fit and comfort reasons. It's not always about style. Personally, I like the straight, bar lacing on balmorals and bluchers such as the Marlows where the vamp gap is reasonably narrow and straight, criss-cross on everything else, but I would never say another choice is wrong.

Suede actually handles the rain very well, better than calf in my experience.

just put on some protector (I use nano), CJ Tetbury is one of my go to rain shoes

These just landed - Skye 2 in dark brown (cigar?) cordovan. 335 last.

The Tetbury is my go to rain boots as well. I apply some Saphir Super Invulner and they are ready to take on the rain and snow.

If the suede is stained those stains can be removed using either a suede eraser, such as the Saphir Nettoyant Gommadin, or the Saphir Omni'Nettoyant for more comprehensive cleaning. I am pretty rough on my suede shoes and have always been able to restore them using the Saphir Omni'Nettoyant. Saphir also makes the Renovateur in different colours for suede if you ever find your suede shoes looking a little flat colour wise.

Received my whiskey and brown shell loafers today. Reaching out to Lauren as both pairs have major creasing around the cups of the shoes. I have included one pic of each pair, but the whiskey has this creasing on just the right shoe on both sides of the cup (that's the worst one, really distorts the shoe) and the brown has this creasing on both shoes, more minor (even though the picture makes it look worse).

While unlined shell cordovan will, inevitably, have creasing, this is on odd non-wear related creasing that I think probably shouldn't have occurred. Sent her a polite request to see if better pairs can be found. Fortunately, spring is several months away, so I have time.

My unlined suede penny had the same creasing out of the box,
I think it is related with the lack of lining during lasting stretch or last removing.

It is a very minor issue, imho.

Ps congrats for the purchase anyway, great couple of amazing Loafers.

Yeah I had that on my unlined Whiskey Shell Harvards as well. No Biggie..

Well, just gonna have to disagree. The cigar ones are minor, yes, but here are a couple more pics of the whiskey ones. Bear in mind this isn't caused by my foot in the shoe, this is how they came, and they look like this without my foot as well. It's on both sides of just the right hand shoe.

I cannot speak of the Harvard's but I have the Alden #8 unlined LHS for BB and they do/did the same issues...

Methinks this is due to the unlined nature...
