Practicality of a cotton suit?

I bought a first suit made out of cotton and I like it a lot. It was an impulsive purchase and now I am not sure of how practical it is to wear a cotton suit. My main concern is that cotton absorbs scents quite fast and so it'll need dry cleaning quite often. Wool tailoring naturally gets rid of clothes - just leave it out to breathe and steam from time to time.
It would not bother me if space wasn't an issue, but my wardrobe is huge and I need to cull it now.
How do you folks deal with your cotton jackets\suits? Do you dry clean them often? Do they actually become smelly fast or steaming them is enough?

And the cotton wrinkles, I know it is a characteristic just like linen. I heard you can only steam the back of the jacket, the front quarters, and the sleeves. The chest, shoulder, lapel should not be steamed.

But the scent... like fragrance or worse sweat

Cotton is not, in my opinion, a good material for a suit or jacket. It doesn't drape, it does not move with you, and it is surprisingly hot.

Completely agree. I personally prefer a cotton/linen mix over 100% cotton. A tropical weight wool is also a great hot clime choice.

I love my cotton suit. I haven't had issues with smells. I regularly wear it in 90+ degree weather with a fair amount of humidity. The only other piece of tailoring I prefer to wear over it in hot weather is made from the LP wool/silk seersucker. The fabric is from the fox khaki bunch.

Cotton is best for shirts. Not jackets. It doesn’t drape well, doesn’t wear well & is really hot. I can’t think of a single benefit of cotton other than looking unprofessional and overheating.

My tailor seems to rebuff any hint at making a cotton suit outside trying seersucker, for the reason that it will end up crumply and I will not be happy. Not even a cotton sport jacket over linen.

The only cotton tailoring worth considering is the washable kind, and I don't know any modern makers offering something like the "Wash 'n' Wear" suits from the 60s and 70s

definitely not the first suit one should buy, but if you like wearing suits in more casual settings I am a fan of the tan cotton suit. Agree that cotton suits are not for hot summer weather.

I regularly wear a cotton suit in August in San Antonio. The average high is 96 degree F with 65% humidity. Cotton suits are fine in hot weather. You just need to pick a light weight fabric.
