Since moving back to Arizona I have relied almost exclusively on a hooded windproof fleece for all my outerwear needs for the 3 to 3.5 months that call for an outer layer. While it does the trick for weather into the 30s with proper layering, my wife has been asking for a dressier option when going out. Admittedly this technical jacket looks really out of place over a nice shirt/sweater and chinos. AZ is extremely casual so I only break out the blazers at rare formal events. I went to Suitsupply today to look at their overcoats, but quickly realized this was going to be too formal again. So I'm looking for suggestions on what would be the most versatile coat that looks good/dressy with a range of shirt/chinos/dress shoes to a sneakers/jeans/sweater or even a Henley, but not too formal. It doesn't need to fit over a suit or even a blazer. I'd wear it to work (a casual engineering corporate office), on business trips in colder but not too cold weather, and for previously mentioned parties and nights out.
At Suitsupply they steered me towards a field jacket for my getup:

With our ever milder winters in AZ I can't really justify more than 1 dressy and 1 technical outerwear piece so I'm really looking for the most versatile option rather than multiple styles. Thanks!
