Is this Drake's tie a geometric or a neat?

Up close, it's a floral, which ought to put it into the "neat" category, but here it is at a distance.

How different is it, pattern-wise, from the geometric BB tie in my OP? (This isn't snark, by the way. I'm trying to learn the differences.)

This is also a Drake's tie. I think it's lovely, but is it too geometric for SF approval? If not, why not?

The first one (someone correct me if I am wrong) is a macclesfield. Im not so much a fan of the blue/red combo in the second one.

I would prefer the first if it were a darker ground, not yellow. Although its not terrible as is.

The first tie is a madder silk from Drakes,it is very nice. I don't like the second one though, the one thing about Drakes madder ties is that they are very soft and feel great, love those ties.

I'm not that keen on either of those ties, TB. Mostly because I prefer smaller scale patterns and different color combos. The second design is similar to your BB tie, but a little simpler I suppose. At some point (maybe from the start) it's just personal choice. Just go with what you think looks best!

Let's not get too caught up in the colors. If I'd had more time, I would have selected several Drakes ties in very similar colors just so we could discuss pattern differences on ties of acknowledged quality. Maybe later.

One thing I'm trying to learn here is why the little squares on my BB tie are less desirable than the little squares on the 2nd Drakes tie (the blue one). Another thing I'm trying to learn is how much difference it makes if the repeating pattern is an actual square (as on the BB tie) or is a tiny floral that reads as a square from a slight distance (as on the yellow Drakes tie).

That's clearly not working for me, Parker, as I think my current tie collection attests. (And I haven't even posted the really bad ones, yet.)

And I find it ugly as hell. LOL! I dunno, maybe it has to do with the fact that it reminds me of fat, ill dressed lawyers wearing it too short and with a tiny, overtightened knot over a shirt collar 3 sizes too small. Besides, the colors of the left one are much more appealing to my eye. The yellow and red Drakes one is horrendous.

What about something new like Alexander Olch? Eve a jacquard tie like the velocipede one rather then a geometric pattern is a fresh departure?

I personally love wool ties in the winter, even if you just go for a solid colour the texture alone can bring an outfit together.

What about bow-ties? Does anyone here like them?
