it almost makes me wonder if stern is daring him ... it's like he's trying to de facto get the franchise player exclusion they couldn't get de jure.

maybe the hornets will dissolve after this season, and stern wants to keep all the players for the rest of the year to at least get a little money out of the team. Then next year everyone is a free agent.

2 years? Is that the longest he can get? If I were him, with his injury history, I'd try and get less annual salary but for a longer term.

Boston offered 3 / 24mil, he went with the bigger payday. I guess he feels his injuries are fully healed and good to go. Condensed season does worry me. We're going to see players get rundown, especially older ones.

Dell Demps should quit.

i read the odom trade as another instance of jimmy buss' "dont f*ck with me" attitude. Same as him trading ariza. he seems still to be at that stage where he needs to assert his alpha-as-f*ckness. anybody embarrasses him and they get traded for ... a draft pick?

Yeah, it seems like if the Lakers had just been a little patient, they could have worked the original trade, maybe even taking on Okafur in the process.
Not sure what they're going to do now.
Dallas is looking very smart. Playing the cap game right.

I think you may be right. Junior is going to destroy that team via his complete incompetence.
Nah, their getting their pick, 2012 draft seems to be loaded with good talent so that should be enough. **** that if they want Gordon, Aminu, Bledsoe, Kaman plus the pick for CP3? A whole goddamn team? These league officials are insane.
I read they wanted all that + a Clipper pick. Stern has gone nuts. This is going to get bad, I think.
Holy ****, again? Its really time for David Stern to step down. This **** is ridiculous.
It really is. It's driving me nuts.
The Union really needs to step in now. It's ******* ridiculous at this point.
The union should just boycott the entire season at this point. No team, no coach, no players know who their teammates will be. This is totally f*cked up.

I don't think anybody could have done anything. It seems to me that Stern is going to hold CP3 in NO at all costs until the NBA contracts and dissolves the Hornets.
Cuban: "So who would you take for Odom?" Kupchak: "No one on YOUR roster!" Cuban: "We can do that." Kupchak: "DEAL!"

Most teams do not like intra-conference trades... I seriously wonder why LA pulled the trigger on giving Odom to the MAVS, the team that swept then in the playoffs.

The Magic holding out hope that Dwight will stay.

http://espn.go.com/los-angeles/nba/...-howard-rethinking-demand-trade-orlando-magic
ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Orlando Magic are not thinking about a trade with the Los Angeles Lakers right now as much as using their playbook.

The Magic plan to try to handle Dwight Howard's recent trade demand in a similar fashion to how the Lakers dealt with Kobe Bryant's high-profile demand in 2007.

Orlando will field offers for their All-Star center but they also will take their time in an attempt to rebuild their relationship and improve the strength of their team.

As part of that strategy, sources told ESPN.com, the Magic currently do not plan to trade Howard.

B/c they're being run in react mode, b/c Odom wanted out and they did not have the sense to just tell him to chill a few days and b/c they figured the trade exemption would be part of a package for D12, CP3. or another star.
Meanwhile, they could have used that trade exemption to help swing a deal for W3st, or an other player that they could have actually used. Stupid.

Isn't it obvious why they traded Odom?

They do not want to see this beast on the courtside anymore.

I guess this will be hard to hold up if they call it splits:

In the case of an unfortunate divorce, Khloe wanted: a flat sum of about $500,000 for every year they were married, $25,000 a month in general support, their new house, a new luxury vehicle at the end of every lease cycle, $5,000 a month for shopping, $1,000 for beauty care AND courtside Lakers tickets for everyone in her family.
