I'm in the process of starting to build a small capsule wardrobe of well-made, versatile pieces including a single (to start) sport coat or blazer that could work for as many purposes as possible throughout the year. (I know that's a lot to ask of a single piece.) My limited experience tells me I might be looking for something in medium-weight wool in a neutral color or pattern, but I really don't know.
I'm 51, and shopping for good clothes has frustrated me for a long while. That's especially true as youthful proportions fade further away -- 6'2" 225lbs at this age looks and feels a lot different than similar stats did 10 or 20 years ago. I know how I want to look, and I can describe a lot about what I do and don't like aesthetically & stylistically -- I can point to Instagram photos and say "That's what I'm going for." -- but I mostly just don't know how to make it happen.
I live in northern Minnesota. I go to Minneapolis - St. Paul often for work. Does anyone have recommendations for Twin Cities shops where I could say something like what I'm saying here and get good, kind, patient advice about a nice, well-made, but not luxury-garment-level, coat or jacket? To use a rough car comparison: maybe something at the nice Volkswagen or non-luxury Volvo level, but still a ways away from any Mercedes.
I don't think I could afford anything bespoke, but maybe I could. Bonus points if the same shop could help with oxford & chambray shirts, selvedge denim, casual & dress pants, and other stuff that might cover all but very formal settings.
