I'm not a fan of the quilted leather, either. I like leather, and lots of it on surfaces, but I don't like it quilted.

It's nothing new. The reason you see it so much now is because it hearkens back to decades ago.

It would appear that Daimler are planing to give the Maybach a facelift:

It has a deeper grille ....just like the facelifted S class does.

Speaking of facelifts. Rolls-Royce has facelifted the Phantom. It has a new stainless steel grille (the previous one was aluminum) . The new bumper improves the front I think. The grille is more like the ones on older models.

Hmm, it does have a sense of majesty and style about it that the Maybach almost completely lacks. Even if it isn't beautiful, I'm not sure I would describe it as "100% ugly as ****".

IMO it reeks more of rap videos and pretentious new money than anything. Just my opinion.

^ Yeah, it has been especially popular with rappers .....but really, why is that a problem?

New Money? .....yes, but these kinds of obvious status symbols have always been bought by the newly rich --- it's just that there is so much more new wealth around today.

Any over the top luxury flagship luxury sedan christened the Zeppelin is going to lead a short model life. So, will this car explode in New Jersey like the Hindenburg?

If rap videos are the benchmark, we have to eliminate practically every luxury vehicle from our COOL list

The fact of the matter is, the Phantom is one of the best built sedans in the world today.

That's only because it's been shown in every rap video.
Like the above poster, you'd have to eliminate just about every luxury brand of goods (not just cars).

I was chauffeured around Vegas in both a Maybach and a Phantom. In terms of curb appeal, the Phantom takes the cake hands down, but as a passenger I would take the Maybach any day.

I am slightly surprised that the Rolls-Royce Phantom has been so much more successful than the Maybach ...especially in the North American market.

With regard to their interiors, The Maybach represents a very American approach -- the focus is on physical comfort and entertainment. The Phantom is much more austere and European in its interpretation -- the focus is on aesthetics and sensory experience.
