So the consensus is to leave belt loops where they are if the suit is casual?

What if it's a more formal, worsted wool suit? I usually remove belt loops on every suit, both casual and formal, but I'm wondering if I'm being paranoid...
You're being paranoid. If you keep you jacket on, most loops would never be visible.

Personally, I get more formal suits without loops, but with side adjusters. The one exception I recall is that I once got a 3-piece suit in a year-round sort of weight with both braces buttons and belt loops. The logic was that I could wear it with braces if using the waistcoat (which covers the empty loops) and with a belt if used as a two-piece. It works out fine, I guess, but no real gain over my usual arrangement so I've no imminent plans to repeat this choice.

Again, though, it's not the end of the world to have empty belt loops IMO, esp. the loops are such that they lay very flat when not in use. I just prefer to avoid this look on non-casual suits.

Let me rescue this thread... I picked up a MTM suit yesterday. It's a casual suit, made of cotton and unstructured. I asked for the pants to have brace buttons and an adjuster on the back. When I picked up the suit I realized it did have the buttons and adjuster as I asked, but it also had belt loops. I think loops+brace buttons+adjusters is too much, so I would have them removed, but I'm thinking that sometimes I might just want to wear the suit with a canvas belt or something like that. Would you leave or remove the loops in this case?

Linen suits are made for casual look. It is not a set rule but the fabric and the cuts make it looks that way. I wouldn't wear braces or belt with it since it kinds of trying to structure into something that was not made for it.

FWIW I wound up keeping the loops on my two linen suits.

I'm not sure which way I would go with any bespoke/MTM linen suits.
