I'm not exactly a guru but I went to Target and got a plastic Reebok one because it is all they have, it is light and I can jump over it.

I recommend a good leather rope with ball bearings in the handles. Some of the plastic and nylon ropes can be too light to generate a good pace, and the plastic segmented ones can leave nasty welts if you miss...

Everlast makes a good basic one for about $15

+2 on the Everlast leather rope. I used a weighted rope for years, but recently wanted to increase speed, so I went to a lighter rope. Tried the Nike plastic one -- it was garbage. Fortunately it was stolen from my gym -- I hope the guy was as frustrated as I was and hanged himself with it.

+4 on the Everlast. I've used both weighted and un-weighted handles and they both rock. Unweighted is great for travel.

Haven't used it - it was a "buy to hang in the non-existent home gym" purchase. Now I just have to buy the house.

There was one on sale at Saks in BH this last week for like 75 bucks. I almost bought it as a SF gag.
