Hairstyle for receeding hairline?

Any ideas on hairstyles that work on receeding hairlines? Not looking for anything trendy but something that is easy to maintain.

My hair started to thin when I was 16. I was so scared that I went 3 months without a haircut in the beginning. Big mistake.

My advice: Keep it short and neat. I learned by age 18 that it was better for my image to have short hair that looked thick than it was to have long hair that looked thin. In general, the shorter your hair, the less noticeable your receeding hairline will be. The longer your hair, the more it'll stand out. Don't be afraid to tell your barber/stylist to take some off the top. Some barbers will assume you only want the top trimmed unless you say otherwise.

I always tell my barber that I want it short enough so that it wont blow in the wind.......but not short enough to look like a marine.

I personally think normal male-pattern baldness looks okay as long as you keep your hair short and neat. Hope I was of some help.

Also, depending on the shape of your cranium, don't be afraid to shave it all off.

A clean pate is not for every head. My brother, for instance, shaved his head when he was in high school (too young) and ended up looking like a cancer patient. Now that he's a little older and filling out in the face, it looks much better on him.

I shaved my head nine years ago for a Halloween costume and never looked back!

Thanks for the advice neato. I don't try to mask my receding hairline by growing my hair in the front. I usually get my hair cut fairly short but tend to let it grow out for around about 6 weeks before getting it cut again. Paul Bettany (the guy from the movie Wimbeldon) has a decent hairdo despite the receding hairline.

My hair looks like the dude above. It is better to keep it shorter because even if your remaining hair is thick, the missing parts will stand out more.

Just whatever you do don't style it like you are trying to cover anything because it will be obvious and make you look self-conscious.

Most days I don't even comb my hair I just let it do the crazy messy look because it will kind of mask the recession a little bit. You could try coming your hair foreward too.

+1. a good stylist can give you advice on how the cranium will look without hair or with a really short cut.

The worst thing to do is to grow it longer to "hide" a receeding hairline. Keep it shorter and neat and many won't even notice.

Paul Bettany doesn't have a receding hairline; he's got a high forehead. You don't know the difference? EgH

i would agree- keep it shortish and messy but ultimately the shave is the way forward. look at recent pictures of jude law- great that he hasnt gone the absurd ben affleck 'teflon hair' route.
