I would sell the jkt. If you REALLY want it..wear with jeans and a white shirt as was stated a few times.
It's a very business-like cut....if you understand that. No matter what brand or how much you paid, it will look like a suit jkt....

This is your first post, can I suggest that you stay a while and read and learn? There is something about the cut of a suit coat which is different from a sports coat or blazer, cloth, cut etc all mark them out.
It is subtle in some ways but marked.

1) Sportcoats used to be orphaned suit jackets worn during vacation and such, or so some igents said. In the end the cut is up to your preference but it can most definitely be the same one than your suit jackets. Prada jackets (sportcoats and suits) usually have that slim, columnar look that is quite good for a sportier/casual look so this one can def be used for that (IF the OP is slim).
2) It is true that a more traditional sportcoat usually offers a larger amount of visual stimuli (texture + pattern) but nowadays and in urban settings, it is certainly not a problem to incorporate more minimal jackets.
3) If the OP really loves his jacket and wants to switch it up he can add leather elbow patches and switch the buttons.

Honestly the amount of Igent dogmatism those who learned about fashion on online forums display is ridiculous and counterproductive to dressing well.

The real problem with grey sportscoats is that they mostly look off with regular slacks (think navy or gasp grey) while they can work with wilder ones, say red cords, which can be problematic in themselves.

I have a few orphaned "trendy" jackets i picked up for cheap. a couple dolce & banana, gucci, and the like. I find they just dont really work with trousers. at least for me. i always feel a little off. however, paired with dark denim and a white shirt...killer. I keep em around for that specific reason.

Good points Fuuma. Although I have a mid grey sportcoat, while somewhat textured from more than a few feet away it may look like an orphan. I think that I have successfully paired it with navy pants (yes jeans work too) and black pants. All that said, I really like the idea of coloured cords. Good suggestions.

Obviously, it was my first post. Nevertheless, I've been following this forum and others for quite a bit of time. But I'll be happy to read and learn more as you suggest. Which is the object of my post and my interrogation.

So, since there are subtle differences in the cut, the cloth and the details, I'd be very thankful if you (or anyone else) could point them out and help me getting the picture with a summarized but somewhat comprehensive explanation or a link to a good source of information*.

*Something slightly more precise than a generic "just browse www.styleforum.net" would be much appreciated.
