Fit / styling advice on this casual sports jacket?

Picked this up for virtually nothing in a sale - how does it fit? Thinking it might be a bit big as it's a 42 whereas I usually wear a 40. But I thought it might work with a chunky jumper underneath like this? Do you think I can make this work as a casual sports jacket and any suggestions for styling it better?

Maybe there aren't any situations or ways to wear it where it wouldn't be better for me just to wear my favourite brown casual sports jacket (shown in bottom picture, for reference). I do however like the material, which is a super soft jersey flannel (favourite jacket is tweed) and different to anything else I own.

It does not really come across as a casual jacket from your photos. It is cut like a sportcoat but it doesn’t look good on you. Skimpy lapels, a little short, buttoning point too high. A little boxy and emphasizes your midsection. Much prefer your dark brown jacket.
