I'm working on putting together my first formal wardrobe to start working in more formal settings and attending upscale school functions. I've already purchased most of the pieces: suits from JCrew, shoes from AE, shirts from CT, pants from Echizenya, and pocket squares from Drake's and Christian Kimber. The last item I need to check off is ties.
So far, I just have a maroon grenadine tie from Drake's. I'm looking to add at least 4 more ties to my collection, possibly more. I'm looking for input on both patterns/materials and brands to consider. So far, I've been looking at Drake's, Sam Hober, and Kent Wang. I'm hoping to spend under $100 per tie, preferably closer to $50, but I have some flexibility.
Normally, I'd buy this sort of thing on eBay. The trouble is that pretty much all of the good ties on eBay are fairly wide and long. I'm 5'6 and slim so a tie around 3" x 56" or so is probably ideal.
In terms of coordinating, my dress shirts are white, light blue, and white with light blue stripes. My suits are blue flannel and dark grey glenplaid with a hint of orange.
Any input on brands, patterns, fabrics, etc would be super helpful!
